CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF PHILADELPHIA (CHOP)

Covalus provided program management and transition planning & activation services for this $600 million Critical Care Building for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The expansion included a new parking garage and an addition that increases the hospital’s total number of beds to more than 700. The 650,000-square-foot, eight-story building houses 276 critical-care beds, 6 ORs, related support functions including a roof-top heliport for emergency care, and an emergency department.

The team provided executive oversight, design management oversight, and transition and activation planning. Covalus is partnered with ECH to provide operational and transition planning for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s new King of Prussia Hospital. The 250,000 square-foot inpatient hospital includes 52 inpatient beds, consisting of a 16-bed pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) — allowing for safe escalation of care without transfer to CHOP’s Main Campus in University City — and 36-bed medical surgical unit. Key activities include project management/oversight, diagnostic assessment, transition schedule development, workforce analysis and plan development, operations planning, training and orientation planning, Day-in-the-Life (DITL) planning sessions and building activation coordination.
